Like so many others, I'm new to the area. Back in New England, there were great small gun stores. I wasn't sure where to go in Florida though. Someone recommended Academy Sports, and they had never occurred to me. SO GLAD I went. Huge selection of rifles, shotguns and handguns. Excellent prices, but most important, the BEST PEOPLE. I was immediately greeted by Nick at the "Gun Bar" and he offered awesome options, explanations, and above all, advice. He has made Academy Sports my "neighborhood gun store" hands down. And when it's time to cash out, Angelica is clearly the best. I've never met anyone better with a register... And she totally laughed at my dad jokes, so she's a great actress too! Seriously, overall experience, 10 out of 10.

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience at this Academy Sports location. As a Spanish-speaking customer, I was not greeted, acknowledged, or offered assistance at the gun counter. However, when a white American customer arrived, they were promptly greeted and assisted.

This wasn’t an isolated incident; I encountered the same treatment yesterday. In an attempt to avoid this, I placed an order online, hoping for a better experience when picking it up. Unfortunately, I received the same discriminatory treatment upon my arrival, which led me to cancel my order and decide to take my business elsewhere.

I felt discriminated against, and I will not be returning to this location.

First time here. Had stuff the others didn't have. Shopped for water shoes. Nice selection and good prices on shoes, apparel and lots of everything else. Great customer service. Someone was always readily available for help.

Not worth the waste of time at all! Some guy named Sergio was the most rude human being I’ve met in a long time! I was sold a pair of shoes that weren’t even the correct price, then they got mad at me for that issue. Don’t ever shop here!

I was super nervous about buying my first gun, I had been putting it off for years because I thought my questions and concerns would be dumb and I'd get pushed out... I was right, with other stores in the area, but the guys at academy were awesome! Very helpful, kind and thorough. I wish I understood how to place orders to the store online, but once I get that figured out, I'll shop here exclusively

I went to your Pinellas Park location today to grab a few Tampa Bay Rays shirts. I walk up to the section that has everything for the Rays. Very nice selection and very well taken care of.
As I walk in there is a sign that states “ HOT DEAL Tampa bay Rays apparel 30% off” So as I am looking, I see these Jerseys that is not only next to but touching the 30% off sign. I will be honest 155$ jerseys aren’t my thing but for 30% of I would get one. Now as I am going through the jerseys there is a nice lady there very polite and asks me if I need any assistance. I replied “ No ma’am I going to take advantage of this sale and a grab a jersey or two. She said “ Ok if you need anything I am right over here”
Now I get to the register they ring up my items and the jersey comes out full price, so I ask the man behind counter, he calls someone, and they say yes, the apparel is 30% off , he then tells the person he needs an override. Shortly after 2 women come up and one firmly stated” that jersey is not on sale I should have read the fine the print. I said excuse me I apologize I did not read the fine print because your sign was touching and closest to the exact jersey I am trying to purchase. She then said “ well its on the print and walked away with the other woman”
I then told the man I did not want any of the < over 250$ worth of merchandise> Went back to get a picture of the sign. I went back to counter and showed the man the picture and asked who the manager on duty was. To my surprise he said it was those ladies that came up earlier. That blows my mind as I am in the retail business. So, I asked what he thought “he said is should have read the fine print”
I do understand there is things that can not be discounted , but sign placement is a huge deal. They wanted to do nothing do with helping me or explaining it was simply a mistake, it was immediately my fault. Made me feel foolish. If they were nicer instead of blaming me, I would have just paid full price.

Everything you could probably need, but you probably gonna pay for it! High as giraffe lips ya know! Good Black Friday deals, catch them on sales. This place is quality, clean and has good service.
