I attended SFSU from 2013 to 2017. The professors were great (some were just good/okay) depending on your major and what not. I had a great time when I was in college. Made a lot of friends and love the city! Some buildings needed major upgrades; I'm not sure if they have been or not since this day. I know there are new dormitories and gymnasium near Park Merced which is awesome. I hope the school continues to improve buildings, add more majors and minors, hire more professors and just continue to go up the ladder. Go gators! ?

I was really excited to attend but overall it wasn’t much different than community college at least for Gen ed. my excitement peaked week 4 and by week 11 of the semester I realized what was ahead of me and how the school is kind of a crazy mess. Having ethnic studies tie their bodies to the Muni tracks and an on campus anti abortion protest with bloody pictures was definitely a bit much And not made better by the pleasant Marchant booths the fallowing week. My department I’ve heard is basically a mess though unfortunately. My CC was state if the art and this place has some buildings that are authentically 1950’s and untouched it’s kind of scary so I try not to think about earthquakes given that Fine Arts, the library and Humanities are probably the safest buildings on campus. It feels impossible and hopeless here because almost nobody lives near campus and everyone commutes so it always feels dead. This factor makes it very hard to feel/get connected on campus to any degree and make friends. Don’t get fooled by impacted programs it doesn’t exactly mean they are “good” it just means the school is cheap and hasn’t built new buildings like it probably should have(Cinema, science and kin departments that’s you!). Go here if they have a good program for your major that’s what’s important, not location, student life etc.

A good jumping off point if you’re in the area anyway. Some teachers hijack courses to share their own ideologies which can be disappointing if you’ve chosen a class based on its description only to find out it’s something completely different; some teachers drone through slides for an hour and half and you’re left wondering what th you’re supposed to focus on for tests; every store and food vendor is expensive; the campus is small and feels like a community college; people who don’t attend the school come here to play with their dogs off leash, wander around campus, or get people to sign petitions; the surrounding area is a little sketchy but could be worse.

Besides the campus, financial aid doesn’t disperse enough for the astronomical rent and food prices in the city. Their proposed solution is to get roommates or reduce expenses. But what if you’re already in a lease? What if you can’t reduce expenses or get roommates because you’re a single parent? They definitely left me behind in this aspect, I’m sure I’m not alone there either.

If you have the means, try harder to get into a UC school.

The campus area is green and clean, you can hear birds singing when you walk in the morning. You can see many kind of flowers, and more in the Spring. The pictures show SFSU in pandemic time when student have to study from home , the campus is really quiet and empty.
1/21/21 I add pictures of the new Dorm at Holloway Ave.

It's a slanted campus, meaning it's on a hill. It's easy to get to class, but coming back is a hike ?. However, they got everything you need here, with the exception of a football team ?. Weather is always cool, and the social atmosphere is always vivid. Food options are decent with good instructors.
