I studied abroad here spring 2024 and had the best 4 months experience. Glad I chose it over any major big city because you get to know everyone pretty well and classes are so much fun and involve the culture and community of Perugia and Italy pretty well. I made such good friends here and u can also do work alongside the staff if you want to build your resume, & they are super fun. The restaurants are the best and I was able to do a lot of weekend trips abroad. My housing was right in the city center, and was above a bar with weekly performances and my roommates and I became friends with the owners. I’ve talked to other friends studying abroad in other cities so far and none compare to Umbra! 🙂

I spent the Spring 2024 semester at the Umbra Institute and it was so lovely. Anyone who is looking to fully immerse themselves in the Italian culture will love this program. Being located in Perugia and at the Umbra Institute, you interact with other Italian students and work closely with Italian professors, which is an incredibly unique experience. The Umbra staff is so helpful and they work so hard for their students. I am so sad to be leaving this place and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!!

An incredible place to study, located at the center of Perugia, a beautiful city at the top of a hill overlooking the gorgeous Umbrian countryside. The city is a perfect size (medium-small) that is not overwhelming and is easy to assimilate into the local culture and is not an overly crowded tourist destination like Rome or Florence, but it is big enough that there are always fun things to do and new secrets to discover.
The staff and faculty are all kind, knowledgeable, helpful people who make it their mission to immerse students into the local culture through field trips, community engagement opportunities, and Italian language and culture class. They provided me and all my peers a fantastic abroad experience.

My experience at the Umbra Institute was unlike anything I expected. I was part of the Food, Sustainability and Environment program and we learned from a very passionate and knowledgeable staff that taught us so much through classes, lectures, workshops and the amazing and unique field trip we took. Perugia is a charming and small city that made me fall in love from the beginning and it made it very easy to adjust from the beginning. It was the right amount of touristy and close enough to the bigger cities if you want to experience that. The staff was very helpful and always willing to hear feedback to improve for years to come. I met amazing people that I’ll hopefully keep in contact with and got to travel to some unique places that I would love to return to. Overall this is a program that I would recommend to other students who want an authentic Italian experience where they will learn about history and get to interact with locals and people of the community.

I studies here for five weeks in the summer. The staff of the Umbra Institute are some of the most amazing people I have ever met. They are nothing but the nicest and only want you to have the best experience during your stay. The classes are very engaging and revolve around out of class experiences. I found myself learning a lot in five weeks. The city of Perugia can only be defined as a hidden gem. There is so much to do every day. The city also allows you to travel on weekends very easily. I cannot recommend the Umbra Institute enough. I think it is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the Italian culture.
